4 Ejisuman SHS teachers sacked for having affairs with students

Four teachers of Ejisuman SHS have been sacked by the GES over sexual misconduct - The teachers were found guilty of sexually harassing female students of the school by a committee which was set up to investigate allegations against nine teachers.

Four others were have also been transferred from the school over the matter while the one has been exonerated The Ghana Education Service (GES) has sacked four teachers of the Ejisuman Senior High School in the Ashanti Region for acts of sexual misconduct. The sacked teachers, Isaac Amponsah, Moses Asmah, Andrew Adu Asare and M. Osei were found guilty of having immoral relations with some students.

The four are among nine teachers who were interdicted in March 2018 after news broke that such acts were happening in the school. This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of GES, Casandra Twum Ampofo, in an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, July 5.

According to her, four have been transferred, whiles one other person has been exonerated. “There are nine teachers, and for four of them, management came up with termination of appointment. With the other four, we have directed the Regional Director to transfer them, but before that they will sign a bond of good behaviour. With the ninth teacher, we however established that he was framed up by one of the colleagues who saw him as a threat to his relationship with a student so he was exonerated,” she stated. It will be recalled that in February 2018, some female students of the school went to town with horrible details as to how their teachers had been harassing them sexually.

The development led to the setting up of a committee to investigate the matter and recommend the appropriate sanctions. Some students who appeared before the panel narrated the troubling moments when teachers propositioned them. "He took my hands and placed it on his trousers and I removed it. He told me I am not a kid and I know what message he is trying to send across, but I told him I did not understand him," one narrated.

Another student revealed how she refused to do what a teacher asked of her since they were in town and in the middle of traffic. "He said I should take his manhood into my mouth but I refused," she said. In all, over ten of the students who testified said they had been sexually abused in various forms and after about four months since the testimonies GES has made its decision.
